University of Delaware Lacrosse Teams Among Nation’s Most
Improved During 2007 Season

BALTIMORE, MD -- The University of Delaware men’s and women’s
lacrosse
teams were among the nation’s most improved NCAA Division I teams
during
the 2007 season according to information released by the website
LaxPower.com recently.
Based on computer rankings developed by Laxpower.com that takes into
account winning percentage and strength of schedule, the Blue Hen women
were the second most improved NCAA Division I team in the nation in 2007
while the Delaware men were the ninth most improved team.
Head coach Bob Shillinglaw’s men’s team enjoyed its finest season in
school history in 2007 as the Blue Hens posted a 13-6 record, captured
its first Colonial Athletic Association championship, and advanced to
the NCAA Final Four before falling to eventual national champion Johns
Hopkins in the national semifinals.
Head coach Kim Ciarrocca’s UD women’s team posted a record of 11-6
this
past spring, placed third in the CAA standings with a 5-2 record, and
advanced to the CAA semifinals before falling to James Madison.
The Delaware women posted a record of 5-12 in 2006 and ended the season
with a 86.22 power rating but improved the win total to 11 and the power
rating to 88.56 this spring. The overall change of 18 was second best in
the nation behind Marist, which had a change of 24 after going 10-6 in
2007 after a 5-11 record in 2006.
Old Dominion was the third most improved team followed by Drexel, Robert
Morris, Rutgers, Massachusetts, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Denver.
On the men’s side, Colgate was the most improved team with a change of
23, increasing its power rating 8.51 points. Ohio State was second
followed by Albany, Notre Dame, Bucknell, Holy Cross, Brown, North
Carolina, Delaware, and Siena.
The Blue Hens went 12-5 with a 91.24 power rating in 2006 and improved
to a 13-6 record and 94.06 power rating this past spring.
