Falcons Make a Difference in the Community

USAFA, Colo. - Throughout the year, the Air?Force lacrosse team gets involved in numerous community service and charitable opportunities. Most recently, the Falcons visited Whittier Elementary School in Colorado Springs, to interact with more than 50 students.

During the visit, the Air Force players introduced themselves and gave the students basic lessons about the game of lacrosse. The children got to try on equipment, learning techniques in catching, cradling, shooting and throwing, as well as the origins of the game.

“It was fun to spread the game of lacrosse to a younger group of children and we hope to do it again soon,”?said senior captain David Mackintosh.

“The team did a great job with our students,” added Whittier principal Marlys Berg. “We always enjoy the Air Force Cadets visiting. My students love the attention that each team gives to the them.”

The Falcons’ visit to Whittier Elementary School was just the latest community outreach project for the team. Earlier this fall, members of the team took part in the Veterans’ Day parade, while others ran in the Prairie Hills Elementary 5k to help raise money for handicapped-accessible playground equipment. In addition, the Falcons play in the annual Price Modern?Lacrosse for Leukemia Tournament every fall. The event benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, which raises money to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
