LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior defensive midfielder Mark Lane (Boonton Twp., N.J./Mountain Lakes) was named to the South team for this Friday’s 67th Annual USILA North/South Senior All-Star Game. The contest will take place at Harvard Stadium as part of a tripleheader. The Division III all-star game will be played at 2 p.m., and the Division I/II game will be played at 4 p.m., followed by a Major League Lacrosse game between the Boston Cannons and Rochester Rattlers at 7 p.m.
Lane was one of Bucknell’s top players this season, particularly in the postseason, when he earned all-tournament honors with two terrific performances in the Patriot League Tournament. He played a key defensive role in Bucknell’s 8-7 victory over top-seeded Army in the tourney semifinals, then in the championship game against Colgate Lane compiled a team-high five ground balls, contributed offensively with a goal and an assist, and had several long runouts on clears. His goal line-to-goal line dash for a man-down goal in second quarter of the championship game was one of the team’s most impressive individual efforts of the season.
A four-year contributor who played the last three seasons as a defensive middie, Lane had one goal and four assists for five points this season, and his 25 ground balls ranked second on the team among short-stick players. Lane accumulated 70 career ground balls and 15 career points.
Lane will be one of two short-stick defensive middies on the South team, joining Penn State’s Andrew Mackrides. Lane is also one of six Patriot League players to be selected to the senior all-star game. Selected to the North team were Army’s Justin Bokmeyer and James Larson, and Colgate’s Matt Lalli and Chris Eck. Lehigh’s Freddy Cassilly joins Lane on the South team.
Bucknell finished the season with a 10-5 record after falling to Colgate in its first Patriot League Tournament championship game appearance. The Bison, who were ranked as high as No. 9 in the nation in 2008, graduate nine seniors from this year’s team.
