RAIDERS RALLY PAST FAIRFIELD 13-12, IN MEN’S LACROSSE ACTION |

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (3/14/09) – Junior attacker Ian Murphy (Constantia, N.Y.) scored
three times and added an assist as the Colgate University men’s lacrosse team came
back from a three-goal deficit to top Fairfield 13-12, Saturday afternoon at Lessing
Field. The win was the Raiders’ first on the road this season.
Senior Nick Monastero (Bohemia, N.Y.) and junior Zack Craumer (Greenwich, Conn.)
both recorded a hat trick, while senior Kevin Colleluori (Bethpage, N.Y.) added a
goal and three helpers for four points. Senior Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.)
extended his scoring steak 39-games off a goal and an assist for a two point outing.
The Stags (2-2) opened the contest with the first three goals of the game while
holding Colgate scoreless in the first period. The Raiders responded with three
goals of their own in the second to tie the game 3-3.
Sophomore Ben McCabe (Brunswick, Maine) put Colgate on the board with his third goal
of the season off an assist from Colleluori. Colleluori then followed McCabe, with
his team-high 17th goal of the season and assisted on the Raiders third goal by
Monastero. Fairfield regained the lead 4-3 with 5:48 remaining in the half, but Corp
responded with his 16th goal of the season to knot the game 4-4 at the 2:54 mark.
The Stags would end the half with a pair of goals in the closing minute to take 6-4
lead into halftime.
Monastero opened the second half with a pair of goals during the first three-minutes
to tie the game 6-6. Fairfield answered back with two goals over the following three
minutes to regain a two-goal lead 8-6. With 6:35 remaining in the third quarter
Murphy recorded his first goal of the contest and was followed with Craumer’s first
of the contest at 3:36 to tie the game 8-8. The Stags reclaimed the lead 9-8 at the
2:35 mark and held that lead into the closing seconds of the period before Craumer
recorded his second of the game with two-seconds remaining.
The teams entered the fourth quarter tied 9-9, but that didn’t last long as Craumer
gave Colgate its first lead of the game 32 seconds into the quarter 10-9, his third
goal of the game. Murphy extended the Raiders lead to 11-9 at the 10:03 mark forcing
Fairfield to call a timeout. Sophomore Rob Bosco (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) gave
Colgate a three-goal cushion with 6:17 remaining with his fourth of the season.
Fairfield immediately answered back with a goal after winning the face-off to trim
the lead to 12-10 with 5:42 remaining. Murphy then gave Colgate its second three
goal cushion of the fourth quarter with his third goal of the game with 4:39
remaining.
Fairfield tallied two goals in the closing minute forcing Colgate to call a timeout
with 16 seconds remaining. The Raiders recorded a successful clear before turning
the ball over with four seconds to play, the horn sounded before the Stags could
clear for a final shot.
Junior Tim Harrington (Lutherville, Md.) tallied five stops in goal for Colgate,
while Charlie Cipriano posted 11 saves for the Stags.
Colgate heads to Navy next weekend for an afternoon showdown with the Midshipmen.
The game is slated to begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 21.
