DENVER – The University of Denver women’s lacrosse team was ranked No. 16 in Lacrosse magazine’s 2008 preseason poll, which was released today.
“We have a solid team returning, and we look forward to playing a challenging schedule this season,” DU second-year head coach Liza Kelly announced today. “We will face five teams in Lax Power’s Top 20, including Duke and North Carolina to start the year.”
In addition to playing No. 6 Duke (Feb. 15) and No. 4 North Carolina (Feb. 17) on the road to start the season, the Pioneers will face No. 11 Georgetown in their home opener on March 2, as well as No. 19 Rutgers (March 28) at a neutral site in University Park, Md., and No. 9 Johns Hopkins (March 30) on the road in Baltimore, Md.
The Pioneers return 19 letterwinners from last year’s squad, which went 16-3 overall and won the regular season Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship after going 5-0 in conference games.
Denver was ranked No. 15 in Lacrosse magazine’s 2007 postseason poll.
