Inside Lacrosse Lists Preseason Top Freshmen, Midfielders
 
   
  DURHAM, N.C. - Inside Lacrosse magazine has begun its preseason coverage for the 2008 men’s lacrosse campaign with listings for the top 20 freshmen, top 10 longstick midfielders and top 10 defensive midfielders and the Blue Devils are represented in the top five of each category.

Freshman Mike Manley has been touted as the No. 5 first-year player in the nation. A native of Penn Yan, N.Y., Manley led Penn Yan Academy to an appearance in the state finals and three semifinal appearances over his high school career.

Senior Nick O’Hara leads the way for the country’s top 10 longstick midfielders coming in at No. 1. The Orchard Park, N.Y., native received USILA All-America, All-ACC and NCAA All-Tournament Team honors a year ago, as the he netted five goals and dished out two assists on the season while securing a team-leading 84 ground balls.

Senior Michael Ward will begin his final season with the Blue Devils as the country’s third-ranked defensive midfielder. A native of Setauket, N.Y., Ward recorded two goals and five assists in 2007 and tallied 31 ground balls, as Duke won the ACC Tournament and regular season titles and advanced to the national championship game for the second time in three seasons.

Duke, which finished the 2007 season with an overall ledger of 17-3, was picked by Inside Lacrosse to finish atop the ACC and second in the nation. O’Hara received preseason first team All-America recognition from IL, while Ward was selected to the preseason second team All-America list.

The Blue Devils will open the 2008 season on Feb. 16 as they play host to Bucknell at 1 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium.
