GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Zack Greer received the 2008 campaign’s first Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honor on Monday, as was announced by ACC officials.
A native of Whitby, Ontario, Canada, Greer helped second-ranked Duke to a 16-4 win over 15th-ranked Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Koskinen Stadium, scoring four goals and handing out two assists on the day.
Greer recorded three of his goals and both assists in a 12-minute stretch as the Blue Devils extended a 3-1 lead to a 9-1 advantage just over five minutes into the third period. The attackman assisted on Max Quinzani’s game-winning tally and was also credited for a team-high five ground balls in the season-opening triumph.
Now with 145 career goals, Greer moves into a tie for 25th with Paul Donohue of Marist on the NCAA's career charts. On the ACC's all-time goals scored list, the senior moved past Virginia's Michael Watson (142) and into eighth place.
With Saturday’s win, the Blue Devils improve to 40-4 when Greer scores at least once and 28-0 when the Canada native scores three or more goals in a game.
Duke will remain at home this weekend as the Blue Devils host Vermont on Feb. 23. Face-off is slated for 1 p.m. at Koskinen Stadium.
