Danowski Selected Second Overall In MLL Draft |

DURHAM, N.C. - Duke's Matt Danowski was selected as the No. 2 overall pick by the
New Jersey Pride in the 2008 Major League Lacrosse Draft, held in Hoboken, N.J., on
Wednesday evening. In addition, Tony McDevitt, Nick O'Hara and Michael Ward were all
selected.
Danowski is the second Blue Devil to be chosen as the number two choice in the MLL
Draft, as Kevin Casseese was selected as the No. 2 pick by the Rochester Rattlers in
2003.
"I'm just happy to be here and to get picked number two puts me at a loss for
words," said Danowski. "I have always aspired to be a professional lacrosse player
so I'm really excited and I look forward to playing for the Pride."
In 2008, Danowski led the nation in total points (97) and assists (56) while
becoming the first player in NCAA history to register three seasons with 40 or more
goals and 40 or more assists. The NCAA's all-time leading scorer with 353 career
points, Danowski is a three-time USILA First Team All-America and three-time ACC
Player of the Year honoree. The Farmingdale, N.Y., native is the reigning Tewaaraton
Trophy winner and is one of five finalists for this year's trophy, as he claimed
USILA Player of the Year honors for the second straight season earlier this week.
McDevitt will join Danowski in New Jersey, as the Pride chose the Philadelphia, Pa.,
native with the 12th overall pick. McDevitt, an ACC All-Tournament Team and All-ACC
pick in 2008, was named to an All-America team for the third time in his career this
year, as he was a second team selection. He also received second unit honors in 2005
and third team accolades in 2007.
O'Hara was selected as the 22nd overall choice by the Rochester Rattlers. A native
of Orchard Park, N.Y., O'Hara was honored with the William F. Schmeisser Award as
the nation's best defensive player earlier this week. A two-time first team
All-America and two-time NCAA All-Tournament selection, O'Hara produced 14 goals and
10 assists while scooping up 304 ground balls in 80 career games.
Ward was selected as the 27th overall pick by the Denver Outlaws. The Setauket,
N.Y., native netted two goals and dished out seven assists in his senior campaign
and has 134 ground balls to his credit for his career.
