Men's Lacrosse Announces 2010 Schedule

DURHAM, N.C.-Duke University men's lacrosse head coach John Danowski recently announced the 2010 schedule. The Blue Devils will face off against five NCAA Tournament teams and nine teams that finished the season in Inside Lacrosse's final media poll.

Highlighting the schedule is a meeting in Durham with Notre Dame on Feb. 20 and a second straight appearance against Maryland in the Konica Minolta Face-Off Classic on March 6.

The Blue Devils and Fighting Irish will face off for the seventh time overall with Duke holding a 6-1 lead in the series. Notre Dame won the most recent contest, earning a 12-10 victory in the first round of the 1995 NCAA Tournament.

Duke looks to avenge last season's 11-8 loss to the Terrapins in Baltimore, Md. The Blue Devils are 17-53 all-time against the ACC rival and 5-5 in the past 10 meetings.

The 2010 season kicks off on Feb. 13 against Bucknell in Atlanta, Ga. This marks the third straight season that Duke will face the Bison in the season opener. The Blue Devils are 2-0 all-time against the Patriot League foe.

Duke welcomes Pennsylvania to campus on Feb. 27, the first of four Ivy League teams the Blue Devils will face. The contest is the first between Duke and the Quakers since 1985 with Penn holding a slight 2-1 advantage in the series.

Four days after facing Maryland at the Face-Off Classic, Duke will battle ACC rival North Carolina in the annual Carlyle Cup meeting on March 10. The game with the Tar Heels will be televised by ESPNU at 7 p.m. The Blue Devils defeated UNC in all three meetings last season, including wins in the ACC Championship game and the NCAA Quarterfinal.

Playing in its third game in an eight-day stretch, Duke will make its second trip to Baltimore to take on Loyola on March 13. The Blue Devils defeated the Greyhounds 11-9 last season in Durham and have won each of the past three outings.

Duke returns home for two games on March 20 and March 23 against Penn State and Dartmouth. The Blue Devils are unbeaten against the Nittany Lions and the Big Green in the all-time series.

Four days later, Duke hits the road to Washington D.C. to take on Georgetown. Both squads own three wins since 1999 as the Blue Devils dropped the Hoyas 9-5 in Durham in 2009.

A 2009 NCAA Tournament selection, Brown will visit the Duke campus on March 30. The Blue Devils have won the past five outings against the Bears, including a 16-10 in Durham in 2001.

Duke will play back-to-back contests on April 3 and April 4. Looking to avenge the 9-6 loss to Harvard in 2009, the Blue Devils will visit the Crimson for a 7 p.m., contest. They will hit the field right away the next day in Durham to take on first-year program Jacksonville.

The Blue Devils host Presbyterian on April 9 and close out their ACC schedule at Virginia on April 17. Duke earned a pair of wins over the Cavaliers in 2009, including a 16-5 win in the ACC Tournament Semifinal. The game is set to face off at 8:30 p.m., on ESPNU.

The 2010 ACC Tournament will be held on April 23-25 in College Park, Md. The championship match is set for 3:30 p.m., on April 25. Duke has won the past three ACC Tournament titles.

Closing out the season on May 9, Duke hosts Sacred Heart for a 12 p.m., contest. It is just the second meeting with the Pioneers for the Blue Devils.
