GEORGETOWN SWEEPS ECAC LACROSSE PRESEASON HONORS

CAPE COD, Mass. — In a vote by the league coaches, three Georgetown Hoyas swept the top preseason awards. Senior Brendan Cannon has been named the Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while senior Jerry Lambe has been tabbed the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and sophomore Ricky Mirabito, who missed all of last season, has been chosen the Preseason Rookie of the Year.

Cannon, the 2007 ECAC Offensive Player of the Year and a first team All-ECAC selection, led the Hoyas in scoring last year with 21 goals and 23 assists for 44 points.

Lambe, the 2007 ECAC Defensive Player of the Year, was a semifinalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy last season and earned second-team All-America honors from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association and first team All-ECAC accolades.

The 6-2 Mirabito will help bolster the Hoyas' attack this season. A Binghamton, N.Y. native, he was an UnderArmour and USILA All-American in high school.

In addition to sweeping the three major awards, Georgetown placed four players on the preseason All-ECAC team to lead all league schools. Penn State, Rutgers and UMass added two student-athletes each to the preseason all-league team while Hobart and Loyola added one each.

The ECAC will honor an Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, as well as a Rookie of the Week during the 2008 season.

The ECAC is the nation's largest athletic conference with 321 Divisions I, II, and III colleges and universities from Maine to North Carolina. Established in 1938, the ECAC, a non-profit service organization, sponsors nearly 100 championships in 37 men's and women's sports. The ECAC assigns more than 5,100 officials in 12 sports. The Conference, located on Cape Cod, administers ten affiliate sports organizations, including the ECAC Lacrosse League. Established in 1999, the ECAC Lacrosse League is a Division I men's lacrosse league. Charter members Georgetown, Massachusetts, Penn State, and Rutgers added Hobart College, Loyola College (Md.) and St. John's University in 2005. Fairfield University joined the league in 2006.
