Geist, Burr Named Men’s Lacrosse Captains for 2010 Season
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Seniors Billy Geist and Travis Burr of the Harvard men’s lacrosse team have been selected captains by their teammates for the upcoming 2010 season, John Tillman, the Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard Men’s Lacrosse, recently announced.
Geist, an All-Ivy League honorable mention choice last season, started all 13 games at defense for the Crimson in 2009, helping the team finish third in the nation in scoring defense (6.69 goals allowed per game). A native of Arnold, Md., Geist tied his career high with 20 ground balls last spring and has collected 51 ground balls over his first three seasons at Harvard. A steady member of the Harvard defensive unit, Geist has started 38 of 39 games over the course of his career.
An attacker from Northport, N.Y., Burr was honored on the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-New England second team as a junior in 2009. He ranked third on the Crimson with 16 goals and was tied for third with 19 points. Burr tallied a career-high four goals against Hartford (March 13) and scored three man-up goals last spring. He has accumulated 41 career points on 33 goals and eight assists.
Last year, Harvard finished 8-5 overall, clinching its first winning season since 2004. The team also placed fourth in the Ivy League with a 3-3 conference mark. The Crimson climbed to as high as No. 11 in the national rankings and garnered five All-Ivy League selections.
