Pietramala Announces 2009 Men's Lacrosse Schedule

BALTIMORE, MD -- Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse coach Dave Pietramala announced the Blue Jays' 13-game regular-season schedule for the 2009 season today. The Blue Jays will play one of the most challenging schedules in the nation as eight of their 13 games are against teams that qualified for the 2008 NCAA Tournament.

"Year-in and year-out Johns Hopkins plays one of the most difficult schedules in the country and 2009 will be no different," Pietramala noted. "An ambitious schedule not only helps prepare our team for the post-season, but is also attractive to our fans and high school recruits. We look forward to the challenges this schedule will present."

The 13-game regular-season schedule is the just the sixth in school history (1993, 1997, 1998, 2007, 2008). After opening the season at home against Siena on February 20, the Blue Jays will take part in the third annual Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Classic at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium. The Johns Hopkins-Princeton game will be the opening game in the Face-Off Classic doubleheader, which will also feature Maryland playing Duke.

A treacherous opening month of the season will also include home games against Hofstra and 2008 NCAA Semifinalist Virginia and road games at defending national champion Syracuse and 2008 NCAA Tournament participants UMBC and North Carolina. Johns Hopkins and Hofstra met in the first round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament.

April opens with a home game against Albany, before the Blue Jays take part in another Inside Lacrosse event, the "Day of Rivals", at M&T Bank Stadium. There, Johns Hopkins will renew its storied rivalry with Maryland for the 105th time. The pageantry of Army-Navy will lead off the "Day of Rivals" doubleheader with the Hopkins-Maryland game to follow.

Hopkins will welcome Navy, an NCAA Quarterfinal team a year ago, to Homewood Field on April 18 for Homecoming. Back-to-back road games at Towson (April 22) and Mount St. Mary's (April 27) will close out the month of April before the Blue Jays end the regular season against Charles Street rival Loyola at home.

Johns Hopkins posted an 11-6 record in 2008 and advanced to the national championship game for the second straight year and the fourth time in the last six years.
