Dalton Added To St. John’s Men’s Lacrosse Coaching Staff

QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 9, 2009) – Head men’s lacrosse coach Jason Miller announced the addition of Brian Dalton to his 2009 men’s lacrosse coaching staff. As a volunteer assistant, Dalton will be aiding Miller on the defensive half of the field, while working specifically with the close defensemen.

Dalton is a 2001 graduate from head coach Jason Miller’s alma mater, Springfield College, where he played lacrosse under Pride head coach Keith Bugbee and earned All-America honors as a senior. Dalton played for Springfield College’s 1998 ECAC Division III Championship team, during Miller’s time as a graduate assistant.

Dalton’s coaching experience includes four years as the varsity coach of Fox Lane High School in Bedford, N.Y. At Fox Lane he developed three high school All-Americans, Max Mauro and Alex Weber, who both play for University of Pennsylvania, and Jay Lucas, who played for University of Massachusetts.

“Brian was a tremendous player. He had the ability to play at the Division I level, but made his college choice based on his desire to be a teacher and a coach, therefore he was a steal for us at Springfield,” said Miller. “Brian improved the program at Fox Lane to the point where they produce Division I-caliber prospects on a regular basis, so his ability to coach and develop individual ability is obvious.”

A former high school All-American out of Lakeland High School in Shrub Oak, N.Y., Dalton was drafted by the MLL’s New Jersey Pride in 2003.

A Shrub Oak native, Dalton graduated from Springfield in 2001 with a B.S. in physical education. He attended the College of New Rochelle, where he earned his masters in education in 2003.

St. John’s will host NYIT and C.W. Post on Jan. 31 for a noon exhibition doubleheader. The Red Storm’s regular season begins on Feb. 14 with a trip to Worcester, Mass., to face off against the Holy Cross Crusaders.
