QUEENS, N.Y. (May 8, 2008) – St. John’s lacrosse senior defenseman Tim LaMare earned a spot among the ECAC’s elite as conference officials announced the all-league teams on May 7.
The senior from Philadelphia, was named to the 2008 All-ECAC second team for his roll as the anchor of the Red Storm defense.
During the season, LaMare earned two-consecutive ECAC weekly honors for his efforts as a leading St. John’s long stick defender. On March 31, he earned the accolade after collecting a total of seven ground balls and causing six turnovers against Rutgers (March 29) and Siena (March 25). In the Red Storm’s 9-6 conference loss to Rutgers, LaMare led the man-down defensive unit in holding the Scarlet Knights 0-7 in power play opportunities.
The Lawrence Academy alum was also named to the honor roll on March 24. Against Lehigh earlier that week (March 22), LaMare picked up a team-high six ground balls and caused one Mountain Hawk turnover.
In the Red Storm’s 10-7 victory over Fairfield, the senior had one of his best games of the season with six ground balls and five caused turnovers.
For the year, LaMare led the team with a career-high 28 caused turnovers and was second on the team with a career-best 52 ground balls. The senior had just seven turnovers himself.
He was instrumental in the Red Storm’s top-20 ranking in man-down defense among all NCAA Division I teams throughout the season. Individually, he was No. 38 of 500 players in Division I in ground balls per game (4.0).
In his four-year career LaMare was a consistent player, playing in all but one game. The two-year starter tallied 170 ground balls and 52 caused turnovers. He had two assists in his career as a defenseman, against Hartford on March 15, 2006 and also on March 16, 2005.
Twenty-three players from around the league were named to the all-league lists. For the complete list and release visit the official home of the ECAC Lacrosse League, www.ecaclacrosse.com.
The honor was the second ever all-league selection for the Red Storm as senior Tom Michaelsen earned All-ECAC Second Team accolades a year ago.
The Red Storm finished the season 2-11 overall and 2-5 in the ECAC. St. John’s was 2-2 at home.
