Syracuse Men's Lacrosse Announces 2009 Captains
 
   
  SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Seniors Matt Abbott (Syracuse, N.Y.), Pat Perritt (Holtsville, N.Y.), Kenny Nims (Watertown, N.Y.) and Spencer Van Schaack (Tuxedo Park, N.J.) have been named captains for the 2009 season head coach John Desko announced on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

All four players will serve in the role for the first time and they were each elected in a vote by their teammates.

Nims was an honorable mention All-American last season and is the team’s leading returning scorer (58 points). He tallied 34 goals and 24 assists in 2008. Against Villanova, he registered a career-best six goals to lead Syracuse to a 21-6 drubbing of the Wildcats. Nims had at least one point 17-of-18 games, including a career-best seven (2g, 5a) in SU’s win at Cornell. For his career, Nims has scored 61 goals and dished out 40 assists for a total of 101 points.

Abbott and Perritt both played in all 18 games last season, contributing 13 and 11 goals, respectively. Perritt had two multi-goals games in 2008, scoring a season-best three versus Loyola. He also scored twice against Massachusetts. Abbott finished with 21 points (13g, 8a) in 2008 and was second on the team in ground balls (73) on his way to third-team All-America honors.

Van Schaack played in 14 games last year as a defensive midfielder and recorded six ground balls. He has appeared in 27 games during the last three seasons and has one goal, one assist and 19 ground balls. Off the field, he’s been named to the SU Athletic Director’s Honor Roll (min. 3.0 GPA) four times, including both semesters in 2007-08.

The Orange will wrap up its fall practice season with a three-way scrimmage at Stony Brook on Saturday, Oct. 11. Syracuse will face the host Seawolves at 12 p.m. then play Bucknell at 2:15 p.m. Both games will be at LaValle Stadium.
