BURLINGTON, Vt. - University of Vermont junior Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario) has been named to the IWLCA Northeast Women's Lacrosse Regional All-America Team for the third straight year. She was named to the first team after earning second team honors as a freshman and sophomore.
Millar, who is the only player in UVM women's lacrosse history to earn a spot on this team, led the Catamounts to one of their most successful seasons in school history. Vermont finished 5-1 in America East (8-9 overall), posting the most conference wins and its highest league finish (2nd) in the program's history. The Catamounts also returned to the America East Women's Lacrosse Championship for the first time since 2003.
Millar led the team in goals (35), assists (26), points (61), ground balls (58), draw controls (74) and caused turnovers (26) for the third consecutive year. She ranked third in the country in draw controls per game (4.24) and ninth in ground balls per game (3.41). Millar was named to the America East All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team for her efforts this season.
She became Vermont's all-time leader in points (178) and assists this season (71) and will enter her senior season 27 goals shy of becoming the all-time leading goal scorer in UVM history. Millar also ranks second among the NCAA's all-time leaders in draw controls with 257 for her career. She moved into second place all-time with eight draw controls in a win over Albany, UVM's first-ever victory over the Great Danes.
Millar will be one of the five leading scorers on the team to return for the Catamounts in 2009 and will carry a 47-game point streak, the fourth longest in the country, into her senior season.
