Millar & Uhl Earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I Honors

BURLINGTON, Vt. - Juniors Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario) and Juergen Uhl (Mulenbach, Germany) have been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I At-Large Teams. The College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) made the announcement today. Millar, a member of the women's lacrosse team, earned a spot on the women's second team, while Uhl, a Nordic skier, garnered a spot on the men's first team and is now a candidate for national academic All-America honors.

Millar owns a 3.52 GPA as an elementary education major. On Thursday, she was named to the IWLCA Northeast Women's Lacrosse Regional All-America Team for the third straight year. She is the first women's lacrosse player at Vermont to earn a spot on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I At-Large Team.

Millar, who is the only player in UVM women's lacrosse history to earn a spot on this team, led the Catamounts to one of their most successful seasons in school history. Vermont finished 5-1 in America East (8-9 overall), posting the most conference wins and its highest league finish (2nd) in the program's history. The Catamounts also returned to the America East Women's Lacrosse Championship for the first time since 2003.

Millar led the team in goals (35), assists (26), points (61), ground balls (58), draw controls (74) and caused turnovers (26) for the third consecutive year. She ranked third in the country in draw controls per game (4.24) and ninth in ground balls per game (3.41). Millar was named to the America East All-Conference First Team and All-Academic Team for her efforts this season.

She became Vermont's all-time leader in points (178) and assists this season (71) and will enter her senior season 27 goals shy of becoming the all-time leading goal scorer in UVM history. Millar also ranks second among the NCAA's all-time leaders in draw controls with 257 for her career. She moved into second place all-time with eight draw controls in a win over Albany, UVM's first-ever victory over the Great Danes.

Uhl, carries a 3.77 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. He dominated the competition in classic races on the E.I.S.A. (Eastern Intercollegiate Skiing Association) circuit this season.

Uhl won all five individual classic races on his way to being named First-Team All-East for a third straight season. He did so skiing against a talented and deep field each week. Uhl won most races by a significant margin, including the 20k classic at the EISA Championships where he won by more than 20 seconds. He went on to finish third in the men's 20k classic at the NCAA Ski Championships in Bozeman, Montana, to earn NCAA All-American honors for a second straight season. The Catamounts finished sixth overall at the NCAA Championship.

Uhl, who was the men's ski team's MVP this season, also earned NCAA All-Academic team for the third start year in 2008. He has finished in the top-10 of every classic race on the EISA circuit in his career and has a total of seven career victories.

Millar and Uhl are the third and fourth student-athletes at UVM to earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I honors in 2007-08.
