Aronson Named Yale Lax Captain

Matt Aronson (Medfield, Mass.), a junior on the Yale men's lacrosse team, has been named 2008-09 captain.

Aronson, a defenseman and former Medfield High School standout, started all 41 games since arriving at Yale. He has 75 career ground balls after scooping up 26 this spring during the 4-10 campaign.

"Being selected captain is an incredible honor. There are so many outstanding people on the lacrosse team, and to be chosen as the captain is a special feeling," said Aronson, whose brother, Lucas, will be a sophomore on the Yale team next year. "As captain, I hope to work tirelessly with my teammates to get this program back to where it should be. I could not choose a better group of guys to do it with."

Aronson, who along with his defensive mates blanked Air Force for the first 50 minutes of Yale's 10-2 win on April 20, typically gets the toughest assignments each game.

"Matt has consistently guarded our opponent's top attackman. As a four-year starter, he has learned a great deal about leadership and what it takes to succeed on the field. He'll do a great job," said Yale head coach Andy Shay.

Aronson, who succeeds Dan Grimm '08, is the second straight defenseman to captain the Elis.
